Jamie Lee Curtis’ Controversial Words
The Oscars’ 95th Academy Awards were held on March 12th, 2023. Many artists made their mark. Winning the prestigious award for the first time. Some of these first-timers included Jamie Lee Curtis as well.
However, in the same ceremony where Jamie won her first Oscar, she had to beg to not be canceled. This was after she accidentally insulted a journalist from Hungary.
Winning her first Oscar for best supporting actress for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Jamie Lee answered questions from members of the news media who were in person and a virtual press room.
After answering a few questions, it was announced that the next question was going to be virtual, Curtis misunderstood it to be a question coming from Twitter- a tweet and not a question by a real person.
Hence, past the announcement, Jamie spoke:
“By the way, the virtual people don’t get (expletive),” Curtis said. “They don’t get the food … they’re at home, their kids are screaming, their husband’s cheating on them … They want to be here with you people so bad.”
Much to her mortification, when the virtual journalist from Hungary started asking the question, Jamie realized her mistake.
She quickly struggled to make it right by saying:
“Don’t cancel me! Please do not cancel me because I assumed that your husband is cheating on you,” she said. “I literally thought when they said digital that it was like, virtual. I thought it was a tweet question. Seriously, do not ruin this moment.”
This led to some serious embarrassment for the actress. Misunderstandings mess things up, don’t they?

Jamie won the Academy Award for her supporting role in “Everything Everywhere, All at Once“. Upon receiving her award, she gave an emotional speech, thanking her film-mates and family.

The 64-year-old actress went on to thank her family – “my beautiful husband Christopher Guest, our daughters Annie and Ruby” – as well as the moviegoers who have supported her throughout her decades-long career.
“To all of the people who have supported the genre movies that I have made for all of these years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people, we just won an Oscar together,” Curtis continued.
“My mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories,” a teary-eyed Curtis said looking upward. “I just won an Oscar.” She said, to honor her late parents- actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis.
