Joseph’s brother exposed him to Hip-Hop music when he was just a kid.

Career

Cartagena joined the Diggin’ in the Crates Crew in 1992 under the alias “Fat Joe da Gangster” (D.I.T.C). After signing with Relativity Records, he released his first album in 1993.

Fat Joe’s debut solo album, Represent, featured the popular single “Flow Joe.” In addition to launching Fat Joe’s career, the song climbed to the top of the Rap Charts. His second album, Jealous One’s Envy, was released in 1995.

Fat Joe collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians throughout the next few years, releasing albums like J.O.S.E. 2 and The Darkside Vol. 1.

To mark the end of his career, Fat Joe declared that he will release two more Darkside mixtapes and then retire. He collaborated with artists like Cool and Dre, Ludacris, ASAP Rocky, and Wiz Khalifa over the next few years to release music.
