Dave Chappelle is going to perform on the American late-night comedy show “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, but there will be several problems in his way.
On November 6, SNL officially revealed that Dave Chappelle will host the show with the American hip-hop duo Black Star on November 12. Dave will be the show’s host for the third time.
Moreover, SNL released promos on Thursday, in which one clip showed mocking the social media backlash upon the recent announcement of his return.
People are not much interested in Dave’s return to SNL because of his controversial jokes targeting the transgender community from his 2021 Netflix special The Closer. According to the New York Post, some of the staff writers decided that they will not take part in the upcoming episode.
However, on Tuesday, the 49-year-old comedian was at 30 Rock, where he met with writers and producers and there his representative admitted that “there was no evidence of a boycott.”
“The room was full of writers. They all pitched ideas and they seemed very excited about it. … Dave is looking to have some fun,” his representative said.
The show writer “Celeste Yim” shared a story on Instagram just after the announcement of Dave’s return, which reads: “I’m trans and non-binary. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned,” the story disappeared automatically after 24 hours, but a screenshot is shared on Reddit as a piece of evidence.
Watch Saturday Night Live on NBC every Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
