Cheryl Burke is still in pain over the custody dispute she had with her ex-husband over their puppy.
Burke and her celebrity partner Sam Champion experienced mixed emotions on Monday’s Dancing With the Stars. The pair performed a paso doble to “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman for Disney+ Night that was entertaining and memorable, but they were ultimately eliminated.
Burke discussed a particularly difficult personal drama that has been weighing on her lately in an interview with ET’s Denny Directo following the tumultuous evening. That drama involved a battle over her cherished dog with her ex-boyfriend Matthew Lawrence.
Cheryl Burke became emotional when asked about the custody dispute, which she has recently been quite outspoken about, and stated, “Oh, I’m going to weep.” You know, it’s just really sad.
It stinks because it seems harsh to me, she remarked. “She’s my puppy, and my ex gave her to me as a gift. I hope that he backs down and that this quickly, you know, dies down. Considering that you’re essentially stealing my daughter from me.”
The professional from Dancing With the Stars revealed that the former couple will be handling the situation in court, unless Lawrence “calls it off,” in the episode of Burke’s podcast Burke in the Game that aired on October 2.
“Unless he abruptly cancels, which would happen, the trial is going to happen. and that’ll take place in January “Burke disclosed. “I’m simply still in a lot of pain over the whole thing. That is, in fact, my dog. My child is Ysabella.”
“I am a dog owner. That concludes it “Of the French bulldog, she continued. “Even imagining my life is beyond me. Although I am tempted to cry right now, I simply cannot fathom my life without her.”
After three years of marriage, Burke and Lawrence officially divorced last month. The divorce process, which was initiated when the dancer, 38, filed on Valentine’s Day, has concluded, according to the court record obtained by ET.
The custody of Ysabella was discussed in the document, and their divorce settlement made note that, despite the fact that the dog’s custody is still up for debate, the former spouses intend to uphold their premarital agreement.
Burke and her partner, Champion, were eliminated from the competition on Monday after four weeks of competition in this season of DWTS.
Burke and Champion, along with competing dancing partners Trevor Donovan and Emma Slater, were the only ones left standing after all the votes had been tallied. Burke and Champion’s time in the competition was over because Donovan and Slater received unanimous support from the judges, who also decided to save them.
Burke stated, “You know, Sam and I have been friends for almost ten years,” adding that they first connected when presiding over the Miss America pageant. “We clicked right away,”
“Sincerely, I’ve always questioned him about whether or not he’d ever go on the program. Ten years ago, his response was a firm “Absolutely not; this is not happening.” And I’m really pleased that he’s pushed himself to do something new “Burke tacked on. “I just believe that it’s incredibly vital to challenge yourself with every single human being in general.”
On Disney+, Dancing With the Stars is shown live every Monday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
