Ingredients

  • 12 pieces slider buns soft and buttery
  • 8 slices ham preferably smoked or honey ham
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon mustard Dijon or yellow
  • 1 teaspoon fresh herbs optional, chopped thyme or rosemary
  • Optional pickles sliced, for serving

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Sharp knife
  • Basting brush

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and gather your baking dish, knife, and basting brush.
  2. Slice the slider buns horizontally, keeping the top connected to the bottom, then lay the bottom halves in your baking dish.
  3. Layer slices of ham evenly over the bottom buns, then sprinkle the shredded cheese generously on top, covering all the ham.
  4. Place the top halves of the buns over the cheese and ham layers, pressing down gently to compact everything slightly.
  5. Mix melted butter with mustard and chopped herbs if using, then brush this mixture generously over the tops of the buns. The butter will give a rich, crispy crust as it bakes.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. You’ll see the cheese melting and bubbling through the layers.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 5-7 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  8. Take the sliders out of the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. This helps the cheese set slightly, making slicing easier.
  9. Use a sharp knife to carefully slice between the buns into individual sliders. Serve warm, optionally with pickles on the side for added tang.
  10. If desired, broil the sliders for 1-2 minutes to achieve an extra crispy top, watching closely to prevent burning.
