A multi-talented performer, Liza May Minnelli was born on March 12, 1946, in New York City, New York, USA. In addition to her Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards, Liza Minnelli is revered for her imposing stage presence and rich alto voice (EGOT). He is a member of France’s Order of the Legion of Honour.
As a youngster, Minnelli lived in Los Angeles with her parents Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, but she relocated to New York City in 1961 to begin her career as a nightclub performer and traditional pop music artist. Flora the Red Menace, which she starred in in 1965, marked the beginning of her longtime partnership with John Kander and Fred Ebb, the two men she worked with on her professional theatrical debut in the Off-Broadway revival of Best Foot Forward in 1963.
In addition to writing and producing or directing many of Minnelli’s subsequent stage acts and television programs, they also helped to construct her stage character of a stylized survivor, including her career-defining performances of anthems of survival (“New York, New York”, “Cabaret”, and “Maybe This Time”).
It was this character, together with her theatrical and cinema appearances, that made Minnelli a long-lasting homosexual icon.
Early Life
In Beverly Hills, California, on the 12th of March 1946, Liza Minnelli was born in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Vincente Minnelli has a daughter named Judy Garland.
After hearing “Liza (All The Clouds’ll Roll Away),” her parents decided to name their daughter after Ira Gershwin’s famous song. As a result of Judy Garland’s marriage to Sid Luft, Liza has a half-sister, Lorna, and a half-brother, Joey.
Christiane Nina Minnelli (nicknamed Tina Nina) is her half-sister from her father’s second marriage, and she is known as Tina Nina. Kay Thompson and her husband, William Spier, were Minnelli’s godparents.
Summer Stock is set in 1950, where Minnelli was accompanied by her mother.
The Good Old Summertime (1949), starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson, was Minnelli’s debut on-screen appearance when she was just three years old. Her first stop in the Big Apple was the High School of Performing Arts, where she studied acting before transferring to the Chadwick School.

Liza Minnelli was in a wheelchair for what reason?
Throughout her life, Liza Minnelli has dealt with a variety of health issues, many of which have undoubtedly led to her need for a wheelchair.
According to Minnelli, “I have two artificial hips, a wired-up knee, scoliosis which I’ve always had, and three crushed discs.”
She was hospitalized in October 2000, at the age of 54, with a case of viral encephalitis, “an unusual but deadly illness in which the brain gets swelled,” according to the National Health Service.
The Cleveland Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, had been called to take her in after she looked to have had a stroke. A week later, Minnelli was released from the hospital, only to be readmitted three days later.
It was first reported that “we discovered her semi-conscious on the floor, disoriented and experiencing what we suspect was a probable stroke.”
When Minnelli came to the hospital for a second time, she was diagnosed with viral encephalitis, which is an inflammation of the brain.
Symptoms of encephalitis include flu-like symptoms including a fever and a headache, but they can quickly progress to more dangerous ones, according to the NHS, such as the following:
“I couldn’t walk or talk, and they told me I wouldn’t… ever again,” Minnelli recalled in an interview with NBC Dateline in 2004.

“Everyone left the room after they told me that, so I went to the wall and started going, ‘A, B, C.'”
‘You know, that’s what it felt like because I had Carnegie Hall to practice in. I long to be alive. “I’ve always wanted to be alive,” I said.
As a result of her illness, Liza Minnelli was expected to stay in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, but she was able to recover enough to appear in her solo show Liza’s Back and guest feature in the comedy Arrested Development in 2003 and 2013.
