Josh Wardle, a Brooklyn-based software programmer, has designed a word game that’s popular because it’s easy to learn and fun to play. Players broadcast their solution patterns and data on social media in an effort to surpass their peers. In Wordle, the only purpose is to predict the five-letter word of the day by typing letters in a box.

Six attempts are given to the right answer by the participants. They are marked in various colors to help you know if you input the alphabet correctly or not. If the supplied alphabet is correctly positioned, the box will change green; otherwise, it will turn yellow. Typing an alphabet and seeing a grey box appear means…? It suggests that you entered the wrong letters in the wrong place. The game is not app-based and may be played by just clicking on a link.

NYT takeover

As recently as a few days ago, the New York Times announced that it had bought a well-known online game that was scheduled to be released in October 2021.

After the game’s shift to The New York Times, Wordle’s inventor Josh Wardle has said he is working with them to ensure that players’ previous victories and streaks will be preserved. Wordle will “initially stay free to new and existing players,” according to the magazine after it is moved to the Times’ website from Wordle.com.

“It’s been a bit overwhelming,” Wardle says in his announcement of the sale, considering that he is the only one who really handles operating the entire game for an unknown amount in the low seven figures, as The New York Times’ announcement claims.

“We could not be happier,” The New York Times Games general manager Jonathan Knight said in an announcement of the purchase, “to become the new home and proud curators of this amazing game, and are privileged to help bring Josh Wardle’s beloved invention to more solvers in the months ahead.”
