A 1992 Steve Brill film served as the inspiration for the American sports comedy-drama television series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
The series is a follow-up to the movie and was created for Disney+ by Brill, Josh Goldsmith, and Cathy Yuspa. It is produced by ABC Signature and Brillstein Entertainment, with Brill serving as head writer and Goldsmith and Yuspa as showrunners.
The sitcom stars Lauren Graham, Brady Noon, and Emilio Estevez. With Brill scheduled to pen the script, ABC started working on a series based on The Mighty Ducks property in January 2018.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Scores Season 2 Premiere Date
It’s excellent news that this fall will bring you more episodes of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
According to the official synopsis, our “squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow (Graham) takes to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole” (played by Josh Duhamel) in the upcoming season.
Last season, our team regained the Mighty Ducks team name. “It’s a place where youngsters can thrive in hockey without being hindered by the school.” Our Ducks must decide if they can win summer as they struggle to survive in this intensely competitive environment.
Duhamel will join the cast after Emilio Estevez’s unexpected departure as coach Gordon Bombay, it was announced back in January.
Estevez insisted that “my exit from the show was due to a variety of artistic issues — any other narrative is incorrect” when asked about allegations that his resignation had anything to do with COVID guidelines.
Former NHL player turned coach Colin Cole of Duhamel is hailed as motivating, endearing, and hard-core. “Big on the hockey metaphor that pertains to life,” says the character.
Brady Noon, who plays Evan, the son of Alex, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, and DJ Watts are also featured in the show.
The junior hockey team, the Mighty Ducks, is now a force to be reckoned with in the sport.
Twelve-year-old Evan Morrow, encouraged by his mother, establishes a new team of underdogs with the assistance of former Ducks coach Gordon Bombay, who has now become the dejected proprietor of a low-level ice rink, after being cut and told he is wasting his time.
Lauren Graham and Brady Noon were cast as the show’s leads in February 2020, while Emilio Estevez, who previously played Gordon Bombay, will reprise that role in addition to executive producing and directing one episode.
Unknown roles were also filled by Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins, and De’Jon Watts.
Elden Henson, Matt Doherty, Vincent LaRusso, Marguerite Moreau, Garette Henson, and Justin Wong were said to be reprising their parts from The Mighty Ducks movies for the sixth episode of the series on March 18, 2021.
A contract issue and creative differences reportedly prevented Estevez’s season 2 option from being exercised in November 2021. Josh Duhamel was chosen to play a major role in the second season on January 24, 2022.
Naveen Paddock became a new series regular on March 25, 2022, joining Margot Anderson-Song, Noah Baird, Stephnie Weir, Connor DeWolfe, Timm Sharp, and Tiffany in the cast. Denise Hobbs took on recurrent parts after joining the cast.
