Given how Season 2 ended (more on that later), it’s safe to assume we’ll be back in Serenity for a third season — but Netflix isn’t committing just yet. That’s correct, Sweet Magnolias’ future is just as uncertain as Helen’s love life right now. And while it may appear like Netflix will keep us waiting until the cows come home, we’re confident that a third season will be announced soon. Meanwhile, find out all we know about Sweet Magnolias season 3, including our best estimations for the show’s premiere date and cast changes.
When is the Sweet Magnolias season 3 release date?
We don’t know if there will be a third season of Sweet Magnolias as of March 2022. But we’re hoping for more from Serenity.
Season two left a lot of questions unsolved, even ending on a cliffhanger with Helen’s engagement decision and a return of an old opponent. So, at the very least, the showrunners are forming ideas for the future of the show.
Time will tell if the episodes are produced, but we’re crossing our fingers. Particularly given that both the first and second seasons were huge hits for Netflix, with the melodrama capturing the hearts of viewers all around the world.
Sweet Magnolias is showing its worth on Netflix, placing in the Top 10 globally for the majority of that 28-day span.
Sweet Magnolias was on FlixPatrol for 26 days in regions such as the United States, Norway, Ireland, and Denmark, according to FlixPatrol.
Any official announcements will be posted here.
Sweet Magnolias season 3 plot:
At least, that’s what JoAnna Garcia Swisher predicts for the upcoming season. “I don’t think you can come back months later and say, ‘Whatever happened with Helen?’ and ‘Is Justin in jail?’ Why not go big or go home,” she said in an interview with ET.
If she’s correct (and we believe she is), season 3 will answer all of the main concerns raised by the cliffhanger ending of season 2. The first item on our list: Will Helen accept Ryan’s offer or continue her search for Erik? While fans have already begun to take sides, Heather Headley tells TVLine that she sees it “going either way,” especially given her past relationships with both guys. But don’t hold your breath for a quick decision: Sheryl Anderson, showrunner and executive producer, tells EW that she “knows what she’s going to say, but I wouldn’t estimate that date.”
Then there’s Serenity’s other tangled couple, Cal and Maddie. We discovered more about Cal’s previous — um, not exactly — rage issues in the second season, and we watched as Maddie distanced herself from him as a result. Cal was arrested in the season finale after getting into a fight at Sullivan’s. Sheryl says the experience prompted two critical concerns in an interview with Glamour: “How do you earn someone’s trust? Is it possible to re-establish trust once it has been broken?” The upcoming season will be a “chance to dive into it,” if all goes according to plan.
Dana Sue must not be forgotten. Everything seemed to be going well for her now that Ronnie was back in her corner — until Miss Frances passed away and left her a large sum of money. This was excellent news until people began pursuing the Sullivans for reasons unknown to us, even slashing the tyres of Dana Sue’s van. What kind of person would do such a thing? We don’t know yet, but it appears that we will soon find out.
But that’s not all: Many other plotlines are just getting started, such as Issac’s recent discovery of his birth parents and Ty’s future without baseball (which, maybe just maybe, includes Annie).
Sweet Magnolias season 3 cast:
Sweet Magnolias wouldn’t be complete without the central magnolias – JoAnna Garcia Swisher (as Maddie Townsend), Brooke Elliot (as Dana Sue Sullivan), and Heather Headley (as Heather Headley) (Helen Decatur).
Tyler (Carson Rowland), Kyle (Logan Allen), and Annie (Anneliese Judge) will all return as well.
Chris Klein plays the philandering Chris Klein. Bill had a lower role in season two, but he has an impact on the primary cast, so he’ll almost certainly return.
Jamie Lynn Spears, who plays new mom Noreen, is also expected to return.
Cal (Justin Bruening) may have been taken into custody, but it would be remarkable if he vanished without notice. Isaac (Chris Medlin) had just recently regained his footing after looking for his biological parents in Serenity, and Cal (Justin Bruening) may have found himself in captivity.
