Fans of the Squid Game, get ready for another round as season 2 is now available!
The main character of the show, Seong Gi-hun (played by breakout star Lee Jung-Jae), appeared to challenge the mysterious group responsible for the show’s namesake children’s game in the season 1 finale, leaving viewers on a significant cliffhanger.
Gi-hun is determined to get retribution for the horrors he observed while living on the show’s remote island location.
This may also be done to pay homage to Sae-Byeok (Jung Ho-Yeon), the tenacious pickpocket who struggled to make it to the final three contestants.
According to Vulture, the show’s creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk initially insisted that he had no plans for the second season of Squid Game.
However, given that many beloved characters in the show’s first season were killed off, it appears that the creator of Squid Game started to second guess the idea of revisiting how Gi-hun will deal with the covert organization that is responsible for the deadly game after it became Netflix’s most-watched show ever.
The success of the show also doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Squid Game made history during the 2022 Emmy nominations by becoming the first non-English language program to win nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung-Jae.
Here is what we currently know about a prospective season 2 of the Korean drama series in case you’re curious about what lies ahead following the dramatic conclusion of the last season.
Squid Game Season 2 Release Date
Director Hwang stated in a Vanity Fair interview that viewers can anticipate the debut of Squid Game Season 2 by the end of 2023 or the start of 2024.
Hwang admitted that he had only written three pages of the script at the time of the interview and wasn’t sure where to take the plot.
He said that new games that would repeatedly test mankind would be shown to the audience.
The second season’s premiere date has not been made public by Netflix or the Squid Game creators. However, if Hwang is to be believed, the following season of Squid Game won’t premiere until the end of 2023.
As soon as an official announcement is made, we will let you know the release date that has been confirmed. Squid game season 2 is expected as released on 28 April 2022.
Squid Game season 2 cast: Who’s in it?
Don’t anticipate seeing too many recognized faces in the forthcoming season two of the Squid Game given the nature of the game itself.
All but one of the 456 competitors in the inaugural season passed away.
Seong Gi-hun, who survived the game and was enticed to return after witnessing another player being recruited for the mega-millions life/death game, is the only one we can be sure will return.
With the exception of Lee, the remainder of the cast is essentially in question because almost everyone has already passed away.
The Front Man’s reappearance was confirmed with the news of its second season, and the man in the suit with the ddjaki was hinted at as well. The debut of Young-boyfriend hee’s Cheol-su was also hinted at but not confirmed.
Former competitors, such as actors Park Hae-soo, Oh Yeong-su, and Hoyeon, could theoretically return, but only in flashbacks as Gi-hun retakes the games in remembrance of his lost comrades.
Fans would also like to see Gong Yoo, a significant figure who is best known outside of Korea as the star of Train to Busan, make a comeback.
Fans particularly enjoyed Gong’s prominent participation, which also paves the way for a potential sequel for his persona.
Since he must undoubtedly be recruiting new players to die in the game someplace, it wouldn’t be difficult to bring Gong’s character back in season two, presumably with more scenes this time.
What Would Squid Game Season Two Be About?
The following episode of the series might actually be a prequel and focus on the backstory of the Frontman if we base our assumptions on what Hwang has stated he envisions for the series.
His background as a police officer would be highlighted in particular in the narrative. Hwang explained to The Sunday Times “I believe that there is a problem with police personnel everywhere.
The police force can be quite slow to react, which results in more victims or a worsening of the situation, as I see on the international news. This was something I wanted to bring up. I might have more to say about this in Season 2.”
Since Hwang famously wrote Squid Game entirely by himself, if Season Two is approved, it may feature the perspectives of the entire writer’s room.
But Hwang claimed that he had some ideas for how Season Two might pan out in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
In conclusion, he could consider a few interpretations. What about Lee Jung-Jae, the show’s star?
In an interview with Esquire, he hinted to Gi-future. hun’s Surprisingly, Lee claims that when the show resumes, we might see Gi-“humorous hun’s side” in light of his now red-haired character’s desire to pursue the Squid Game’s developers.
Gi-hun got more serious because he had to save these people, thus Lee speculated that he would have a more resolute personality.
“However, if he simply has too much grit, that may get a little monotonous. Therefore, I predict that Gi-amusing hun’s aspects will also be shown in the upcoming season.”
Squid Game season 2 trailer: When can I watch it?
A release date is unfortunately still rather far off because, as far as we know, filming for the new season hasn’t even started yet.
As a result, there is also no trailer.
Even though Squid Game has permanently dissuaded us from gambling, late 2022 appears to be a likely safe bet for the release of additional footage.
