Fans of Space Force will be sad to hear that the show has been cancelled after two seasons.
It seems we’ll never know how Steve Carell’s General Naird and his merry gang of scientists and government spies dealt with the end of the world, despite the cliffhanger ending.
What went wrong, exactly? Everything you need to know about this topic is right here.
Space Force season 3: What happened?
Despite its A-list comic cast, Space Force received a lukewarm reception from the start.
With critics, the first season was a failure, but with fans, it was an enormous success (on Rotten Tomatoes, it scored a 39 percent critics score, but a 75 percent audience score).
Season two, which shifted the focus of the show to the interpersonal connections of people on the force, was a huge improvement, garnering a perfect score from critics the day it premiered.
However, Space Force season two failed to last more than a week in Netflix’s top 10 overall carousels in any country across the world because of the weight of the first season.
In spite of the fact that it continues to be polarising and perplexing, it did significantly better in the top ten TV shows list, lasting up to 45 days in places like Australia, Hungary, and the United States.
However, it seems most likely that Netflix’s abrupt budget cuts were to blame for the cancellation of Space Force. In the first quarter of 2022, the streaming service endured a slew of setbacks, including a precipitous drop in customers that caused its stock price to plummet.
This, in turn, led to the withdrawal of $1.1billion in funding from one of their largest investors, which is going to hurt. To get back on track, Netflix has had to reduce its spending a bit. Space Force is among the programs that have been slashed due to budgetary constraints.
Ben Schwartz, one of the show’s stars, led the cast’s statement following the show’s cancellation news on April 30: “It was a pleasure having you all here to see [Space Force]. Greg Daniels, Norm Hiscock, and the rest of our brilliant authors are to be commended. Thanks to our all-star cast, including Steve Carell, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, and Jimmy O Yang. Stupid Tony cares about you. Send a tweet, Siri.”
Space Force 3: Who would have been in the cast?
With a strong ensemble of characters, it appears that the program would have lasted even if all of its stars had remained.
Steve Carell, Diana Silvers, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Jimmy O Yang, and Don Lake make up this cast (Brad).
As Captain Lancaster, Patton Oswalt (kind of) joined the cast via video link as an astronaut who has been left alone aboard a spaceship between Earth and Mars after his mission was aborted en route.
Another performer we would have been shocked to see again is actress Lisa Kudrow, who plays Maggie in Naird’s prison cell. There is no way for us to know how Maggie ended up in jail, but her appearance on the show was limited to about three video calls during the second season.
She didn’t have to keep checking in after filing for divorce because her daughter Erin is now an independent adult. Even if the character is an outside influence, Lisa’s time on the show appears to have been gone.
Space Force 3: What will the plot be?
Asteroid-blocking spaceships are what Space Force is all about, so that’s what we’re looking at here.
Season two ended with Naird and his team discovering an enormous asteroid hurtling toward Earth, and the gang was left with little choice but to sing The Beach Boys ‘Kokomo’ in an attempt to maintain their composure.
In light of the asteroid’s direct path towards Earth, it’s likely that the group will figure out a way to stop it before it’s too late in season 3. It’s not that big of a deal.
Angela and Chan’s romance was still in its infancy, and Naird was struggling to keep his personal and professional lives in balance as things got even more stressful.
Captain Lancaster’s daughter, Erin, would have been on a journey to figure out life beyond high school, and he’ll probably be wondering how the hell he’s supposed to get back to Earth without going crazy.
Surely you’ll be stuck there for the rest of your life now.
Space Force 3 trailer: When can I see it?
We sincerely apologize to everyone. There will be no new filming, no trailer, and no renewal. That’s all there is to it.
It’s done and dusted.
Space Force season is available now on Netflix.
