Sheryl Crow isn’t one to speak openly about her personal life these days.
Despite the fact that the mother-of-two has collaborated on her next album Threads with one of her famous exes (the renowned Eric Clapton), it’s been a few years since she’s opened up in the press about her dating rap sheet. If we’re being precise, it’ll be five years.
In 2014, Crow told Good Housekeeping, “I had always gone out with people who were incredibly successful, which would seem to put me on an equal footing.” “But what happens is that one of you shrinks — and it’s always been me. It is always the woman’s fault. I mean, I’m not saying it’s always the woman, but I believe that in order for one person’s light to shine, everyone else’s must dim.”
She hasn’t been publicly linked with someone in a long time. “Right now, I don’t have a partner,” she told The Guardian earlier this month. “I’m hoping that will change soon.”
Her boys, Wyatt (whom she adopted in 2007) and Levi (whom she adopted in 2010), both under the age of 12, could be contributing to the dry spell. “I’d made a deal with myself that anyone I was engaged with as a friend would be known to my kids first. They weren’t going to wake up one morning to find someone sleeping in their house or feel abandoned because their relationship had ended “she revealed to the publication.
It could possibly be that none of her friends are introducing her to any good men. “I’ve been duped before,” she admitted to GH. “‘I don’t know anyone good enough for you,’ my guy pals will say. ‘Lower your standards!’ I keep telling them.”
Let’s take a look back at all the men she’s been linked with throughout the years, some you’ll recognize (ahem, Lance Armstrong) and some you won’t. Josh Charles from “The Good Wife”? Who would have guessed?
Sheryl Crow had a brief romance with famed musician Eric Clapton, who is 17 years her senior, in the late 1990s. Although the relationship didn’t last long, it is said to have inspired her popular song “My Favorite Mistake,” which is about a philandering ex-boyfriend. Despite the assumption, Crow never revealed who the song was about, referring to Clapton as “a really good friend of mine” when he joined her in Central Park in 1999. His inclusion on her upcoming album Threads confirms that their friendship is still going strong.
Crow met Owen Wilson on the set of the little-known film The Minus Man, in which she made her acting debut as one of Wilson’s serial killer character’s victims, and they began dating in 1999. They dated for two years and even attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2000. The song “Safe and Sound,” which she dedicated to him in the liner notes of her 2002 album C’mon, C’mon, was dedicated to him and served as an account of their relationship, as she admitted in the liner notes.
Crow dated Josh Charles, the actor of The Good Wife, for a few months in early 2003, including bringing him as her date to the Grammy Awards that February. By April, though, they’d called it quits, according to a source who told Us Weekly, “They are no longer in contact. She’s looking for The Guy, but he’s not the one she’s seeking for.”
Crow began dating legendary (and now notorious) cyclist Lance Armstrong in October 2003, shortly after he divorced his wife and mother of his three children, Kristin Richards, during a charity event. They were engaged in September 2005 and shared a ranch in Austin. But it wasn’t meant to be, and they announced their breakup in February 2006.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to part up after much thought and contemplation. We both have a great deal of love and respect for each other, and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this extremely trying time “Their joint statement was as follows:
Ryan Seacrest was reported to have dated Crow around the same year that the American Idol host briefly dated Teri Hatcher—2006—though there is very little proof to back up this claim. Is it a false internet rumor or a closely guarded secret? Maybe we’ll never know.
Crow was photographed out at dinner with actor Hank Azaria in 2006, sparking speculations that the two were dating, despite the fact that Patricia Arquette was also present. Neither of them has commented on the rumors, and they haven’t been seen together since.
Crow began dating film director and Elizabeth Hurley’s ex Steve Bing in late 2007 after apparently being introduced by mutual friend Jennifer Aniston. “Things got a little more intimate between them a few weeks ago,” a source told Star in March of that year. “They’re definitely connecting; they have a lot more in common than anyone expected.”
Doyle Bramhall II:
Crow took her relationship with producer Doyle Bramhall II to the next level after engaging him to record her 2010 album 100 Miles from Memphis. They made their first public appearance together at The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s 2011 Spring Ball. In a May interview with Prevention Magazine, she discussed her relationship with an anonymous producer, saying he was “very excellent” with her two sons.
“I’ve been engaged with people and their children, and it’s heartbreaking if the connection doesn’t work out,” she continued. “So when we’re around the kids, I’m keeping the connection as a friendship. We have a good foundation because we’ve known each other for fifteen years.” There’s no news on when the two officially ended their relationship, but she was promoting her newest album, 2013’s Feels Like Home, as a single woman by 2014.
