One of Bob Saget’s best-known roles is that of father-of-three Danny Tanner in “Full House,” a famous sitcom that ran for eight seasons and featured a lot of “You got it, guy” moments. “Full House” without Bob Saget is impossible to envision, but it’s even more difficult to see the actor-comedian getting into trouble because he plays the parent so casually. Despite this, Saget’s post-“Full House” comedy career was exceedingly vulgar, and it was later revealed that he always had a crass streak, he was simply skilled at concealing it on TV.
After five seasons and five seasons of “Fuller House,” Netflix’s “Full House” revival, which concluded in 2020 (with a triple wedding in the finale! ), he was still cast in a regular role. Saget’s behaviour during the original taping of the show, notably his relationship with the Olsen twins, remains a source of controversy.
Revelations from The Roast of Bob Saget
The 2008 Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget went much beyond the occasional politically incorrect remark, which is common in roasts. The jokes, questions, and even charges (although lighter) of Bob Saget’s sexual misbehaviour increased with each new comedian on stage. Bob has done a lot for this country. For eight seasons, half an hour every week, ‘Full House’ kept paedophiles off the street. In fact, three of them were on the show!’ said comedian Brian Posehn.
In contrast to Posehn’s statements, comedian Jeff Ross delved into Saget’s relationship with Mary-Kate Olson. And even John Stamos, who played Mary-Kate on “Full House,” joined in the fray, implying that Saget harboured sexual fantasies that ran counter to his portrayal on the programme.
Bob Saget’s sexual preferences were the subject of many of the night’s jokes. Even more horrific “jokes” about drugs and murder were made throughout the gathering. It’s worth noting, though, that this particular sort of “humour” was popular on Comedy Central in the late 2000s. The purpose was to offend as many people as possible, rather than telling the truth.
Saget admitted to making inappropriate gestures on the Full House set
To prepare for situations when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were unavailable, Bob Saget said that the performers on Full House would sometimes practise with a doll of Michelle’s size, which was around the same height as the Olsen twins themselves. Isn’t that reasonable? Even though the twins were cast in the same role, it is possible that one of them would become weary or grumpy and the other would be unable to run through the sequences together. Saget, on the other hand, was more likely to mistreat the practice doll.
There were times when being goofy helped the cast survive a clean-cut show that initially received criticism but later became part of family-television humour, as the actor explained in his autobiography (via Elite Daily). “I know what I’m doing is wrong,” Saget said, “but it’s just how I do things.” He also conceded that these activities were in keeping with his approach to comedy, which was “Jekyll/Hyde,” as he put it.
Saget speaks out about his real relationship with the Olsen twins
Several fans assumed that Saget’s previous accusations of sexual misbehaviour were accurate when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen refused to reprise their role as Michelle Tanner for “Fuller House” (via HITC). When asked about the possibility of the twins returning to the role of Michelle in 2016, “Fuller House’s” producer Bob Boyett said that Ashley had said, “I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don’t feel comfortable acting,” and Mary-Kate had said, “It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us” (via Newsweek).
It’s also impossible to believe that “Fuller House” would have hired Saget without conducting a thorough background check on the actor. A year and a half after the actor’s autobiography was released and eight years after the first Comedy Central Roast, “Fuller House” made its debut in February 2016. Because of Jeff Franklin’s claimed pattern of awarding small roles to people with whom he was romantically or sexually involved, the show’s showrunners on “Fuller House” were forced to change midway through the production of the series. Producers of “Fuller House” would not have hired Saget if that was enough of a reason to terminate him.
Saget, on the other hand, recently asserted that he had a nice relationship with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, despite his terrible past actions. Saget started about Ashley and Mary-Kate in a podcast interview with Michael Rosenbaum in 2021: “Ashley and Mary-Kate… I adore it so much. When I’m in New York or when they’re here, when we can, we see each other.”
In the end, there is no proof of any genuine assaults, only (very unfunny) jokes are being told. But, as Devon Godhe wrote in his story for The Ramapo News, these jokes and gestures will definitely become more crucial if genuine claims of sexual assault ever do arise.
