The violent reaction he got was called DRESS (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms).
He was saved by a multi-specialty team that arrived on time. He had a reaction after taking antibiotics for a staph infection. As the rash spread across his entire body, his condition deteriorated.
In addition to the rashes, his liver was severely injured, yet everything worked out in the end.
He was admitted to the hospital on the eighth day, and it took him a month to fully recover.
Phil is still recovering and appears to be leaving NBC News. On Twitter, Phil recently announced his first live broadcast with ABC World News.
