On March 10, 2022, Hailey Bieber, a 25-year-old model and the wife of musician Justin Bieber, was brought to the hospital with stroke-like symptoms.
She recounts the incident as the “scariest moment of her life” in a YouTube video posted on Wednesday.
“Basically, I was eating at breakfast with my husband Justin Bieber, enjoying a typical day, having a normal discussion when all of a sudden, I felt this incredibly strange sensation that moved down my arm from my shoulder to my fingertips…
It made my fingers feel numb and strange “she clarifies
“The right half of my face started drooping, I couldn’t get a sentence out,” she recalls of the incident.
“I felt I was suffering a stroke right away,” she says, adding that she was lucky to have a medic on hand to check her.
Hailey was brought to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which was diagnosed as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) (TIA).
A TIA is also known as a small stroke, which is a brief period of symptoms that are similar to those of a stroke.
The blood clot in her brain, according to her doctors, was caused by three things.
“One was that I had only recently started taking birth control pills, which I should never have started because I already had migraines,” she stated. “I also didn’t tell my doctor about it.”
Second, she had recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 and had been flying ” “from Paris to New York in a very short period of time.” As a result, she dubs her blood clot “the perfect storm.”
The physicians were baffled as to why the clot had migrated to her brain.
After receiving a transcranial doppler, an ultrasound that employs sound waves to measure blood flow in the brain, she was diagnosed with a grade 5 PFO the highest degree attainable.
“The conclusion was that I had a blood clot that migrated into my heart instead of — what generally occurs when you have a little blood clot is that the heart filters the blood clot to your lungs, and your lungs absorb it,” she explained.
“My blood clot actually escaped through the flap, or hole in my heart, and got to my brain, which is why I had a TIA,” she explains.
Baldwin Bieber then had a cardiac operation to fix the PFO, which involved placing a small device into her femoral vein in the groin to plug the small hole. The surgery went “quite smoothly,” she said, and she’s totally recovered.
“The most important thing is that I am glad that we were able to sort everything out, that we were able to close it, and that I will be able to move on from this terrifying scenario and simply live my life,” she says.
She is currently taking aspirin and blood thinners and claims to be free of symptoms.
“Although this was probably one of the scariest moments of my life, I’m home now and doing great, and I’m so glad and appreciative to all of the incredible doctors and nurses that took care of me!” she wrote.
“Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and good wishes, as well as for all the love and support..”
What caused Bieber’s condition is unknown.
Last month, Hailey Bieber said that she would no longer speak publicly about her personal life, stating that she has no desire in doing any more interviews about her spouse or her personal life.
“It doesn’t feel worth it to me any longer when I try to have an open dialogue with someone like you and it’s taken out of context,” she explained. “Clickbait is when the media takes a little little bit of something and turns it into clickbait. The media has always been revolting.”
