When it comes to hip-hop cosigns, Drake is unquestionably the most prominent figure. When it comes to supporting up-and-coming musicians, whether you see Aubrey as a greedy opportunist or someone who truly cares about promoting new artists, he has helped a number of young rappers become noticed. As a protégé, The Weeknd is one of the most well-known stars in Canada.
It was in 2010 when Drake posted two of the then-unknown singer’s tracks on his blog, October’s Very Own. During the promotion of The Weeknd’s first mixtape House of Balloons in 2011, they finally met up. Abel contributed to Drake’s second album, Take Care, in the same year.
In the early stages of their partnership, The Weeknd secured a record deal with Republic Records rather than Drake’s OVO Sound label. Finally, things worked out between them, but the controversy about The Weeknd’s involvement in taking Care and Drizzy’s relationship with Abel Hadid during the time he and his ex-girlfriend were apart appeared to exacerbate the rifts between the two.
According to fans who believe My Dear Melancholy singer The Weeknd dropped a subtle jab on Gesaffelstein’s new song “Lost in the Fire,” fans are questioning whether the two artists are battling once again.
Drake was looking to sign The Weeknd to his OVO Records label
It was in October of that year that Drake praised The Weeknd in an interview. In four of the songs on my record, he serves as a co-writer, which is something that I much respect. MTV News quotes him as saying, “When it comes to writing, I don’t normally cooperate with anyone” (via XXL). It’s alright with us if I write everything myself. The fact that we share a hometown makes it easier for us to connect on an emotional level. In spite of the fact that Drake and The Weeknd co-wrote songs on all of their early albums, Drake was unable to sign The Weeknd.

The Weeknd’s fan base had grown by 2012. It was stated by XXL in 2012 that Drake informed Sway Calloway he was working on signing him to the OVO Sound label. There appears to be no problem on paper, but that’s irrelevant. What matters to me is the association’s reputation, he explained. According to the singer, she wants to continue working with him in his music career, and he wants the same for her.
A very different perspective was taken by Drake. In September of 2012, The Weeknd secured a record deal with Republic Records. “You won’t get away with simply a thank you…you owe me a favor,” Drake tweeted. Yikes.
Drizzy “broke the bro code”
Celebrity supermodel Bella Hadid is at the center of an alleged rivalry between Drake and The Weeknd. Reports that Drake is dating the ex-girlfriend of the “Starboy” singer have caused conflict between the two friends and colleagues, according to Page Six.
The Weeknd, actual name Abel Tesfaye, ended their 18-month romance with the model in November of last year. The current rumors regarding Bella’s relationship with Drizzy are said to be straining their relationship, according to insiders in Toronto. ‘They both hang out with the same Toronto gang, and now they have to choose sides,’ one insider claimed. Whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop
‘I won’t be able to make it…’ To whoever you pledge your devotion is up to you.” Currently, “they’re not getting along”… The groups are fighting because Drake violated the bro code.
After the rumors of Drake giving Bella’s 21st birthday party this month, a source said the two are “100 percent hooked up.”
In June, after a long night of partying, the two were photographed exiting a Los Angeles nightclub together, sparking speculation about their relationship.
To yet, there has been no official comment from The Weeknd, who is now dating fellow pop star, Selena Gomez. The Weeknd and Hadid were conspicuously absent from Drake’s 31st birthday party, which he dubbed a “re-bar mitzvah.”
Drake and The Weeknd Have Finished Their Feud
Drake and The Weeknd’s romance hasn’t been without its ups and downs throughout the years. In light of Drake and Bella Hadid’s relationship rumors and nasty Instagram remarks, The Weeknd and Drake’s friendship has been put to the test.
Instagram user @TheWeeknd penned the majority of his Take Care album in November 2017,” Drake reacted, saying (via XXL), “Abel Tesfaye CO WROTE on ‘Shot For Me,’ and “Practice,” and was certainly featured on “Crew Love” and “The Ride,” as well.” There are 20 tracks on this album Keep your distance.
In 2019, “Lost in the Fire,” a song by The Weeknd, was rumored to be a dig at Drake. The Weeknd says in the song, “And I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I would never be the one to conceal one.” Pusha T’s “The Story of Adidon” attack against The Weeknd was clearly overplayed in his head.
Since then, things have gotten better for the two of them. In the lyrics of his 2020 single “War,” Drake stated that he wished to put the hatchet down with his protégé. This lad who sounds like he’s from Thriller, that’s been my n****/, you know that.” The six things in our family that we can’t break apart were merely a matter of fixing things. While we don’t know if The Weeknd is ready to put the feud behind him, we surely want to see the duo collaborate again in the future.
At Drake’s birthday celebration, the Weeknd joins him
The Weeknd celebrated his 32nd birthday on Saturday night in Las Vegas with a small group of close friends. Drake, the Toronto rapper, may have been in attendance, as evidenced by photos and video recordings that have leaked online.

Even if their alleged disagreement was resolved some time ago, the former coworkers haven’t been seen together in a long time. “I’ve been there from day one, and I’m delighted not only to be here… with my brothers, but simply grateful that the family is back together where we belong… from the greatest city in the world,” Drake, flanked by The Weeknd, stated on the microphone.
Drake was joined on stage by other artists like Future, Kaytranada from Montreal, Swedish House Mafia, and Simi Khadra from Simi Haze.
“Making out like there was no tomorrow” was how TMZ described Khadra and The Weeknd’s early-morning fling. However, it is the stunning photographs of Abel and Aubrey that have fans talking as the week begins.
