Demi Lovato is the latest celebrity to embrace the summertime manicure trend of chrome nails.
On Instagram, the musician shared a few clips of her signing autographs with a hypnotizing metallic silver manicure that had a high gloss finish.
Celebrities like Zendaya and Dua Lipa have been spotted sporting chrome manicures throughout awards season, and the trend is expected to continue.
The perfect balance of glitz and demure may be found in chrome nails, which are the antithesis of today’s extremes in manicure fashion: either they’re garish or they’re modest.
Chrome nails can also be achieved at home with the proper equipment. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to achieve a chrome finish on your nails, try Lights Lacquer’s Nebula ($11), CND Shellac’s Silver Chrome ($15), or Essie’s Good as Gold ($9).
Using chrome nail powder is a common method, but if you prefer a more traditional look, there is a simple method to follow.
Julie Kandalec, celebrity manicurist and instructor, previously told POPSUGAR, “With the powder, you’re going to sandwich chromium pigment in between layers of non-wipe gel topcoat.”
If you have Real Techniques Mini Complexion Sponges ($6 for four), dab a sponge into the chrome powder, then apply the color on the recently cured non-wipe topcoat,” she advises.
Afterward, remove any loose pigment with a brush and apply a second layer of the nonwipe top coat and cure it once more.”
