Chris Pratt does not identify as “religious.”
The 43-year-old Jurassic World Dominion actor opened up to Men’s Health for the magazine’s July/August 2022 cover story, discussing how he dealt with internet criticism and how he gradually came to associate with religion.
2018’s MTV Movie & TV Awards saw Pratt collect an honour and deliver a lengthy statement. At one point, he declared, “God really exists. God loves you and desires nothing but the best for you. That is true. I do.”
He told Men’s Health after giving it some thought: “Perhaps it was arrogance. I doubt that anyone was impacted by my decision to step up on stage and speak the things that I said.”
When Pratt was accused of visiting Hillsong Church, which some claimed is anti-LGBTQ+, he came under fire in 2019. Nothing “could be further from the truth,” he retorted at the time.
At that time, he also said that “I value my faith, but no church has the authority to speak for or on behalf of me or how I should live my life.
I am what I stand for. Not more hatred, but less of it. I’m a man who thinks everyone has the right to love whoever they choose without having to worry about other people’s opinions influencing them.”
His Men’s Health profile stated, “Never once did I visit Hillsong. Hillsong is a place I’ve never actually visited. No one from that church that I am aware of.”
To avoid “throwing a church under the bus,” Pratt said he refrained from saying it at the time. He continued by saying that he occasionally goes to both the Zoe Church and the Catholic church where his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger grew up.

Generally speaking, Pratt stated that “religion has been repressive as f—- for a long time” and that “actually I’m not a religious person,” yet he still retains his faith.
“Even though I’m not religious, I didn’t realize that I would essentially take on the role of the face of religion.
I believe there is a difference between being religious and using religion to control people, extort money from them, abuse children, steal their property, or justify hatred.
Being religious, in my opinion, is adhering to man-made traditions and oftentimes appropriating the reverence reserved for what I believe to be a very real God. it, whatever it is.
The evil that exists in every man’s heart has clung on religion’s tail and joined the ride.”
Along with the already in theatres Jurassic World installment, Pratt also plays his Guardians of the Galaxy character in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
He’ll return for a follow-up in the following year. Additionally, he is a cast member of the upcoming Friday streaming Amazon Prime Video series The Terminal List.
The father of three spoke to Men’s Health about facing backlash on social media and said, “I have so many blessings, so you don’t want to ever be found whining or doing anything. Everything in my life, I honestly regard to be a blessing. What makes them target me, though?”
There is also a lot of information about him that others have purely made up, including information about his politics, his identity, and his views on other people.”
