Brian Wilson is still alive, and as of 2022, he is 79 years old.

Following his death, Wilson’s Facebook page garnered over a million “likes.” The December 2018 allegation, on the other hand, was later exposed as a complete fabrication, the latest in a long line of fake celebrity death rumours. Thankfully, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys is still alive.

Brian Wilson Illness

Wilson, who has schizoaffective disorder and moderate manic depression, has battled mental illness for more than 50 years.

Wilson was also diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic in 1984 after doctors uncovered evidence of brain damage from Wilson’s long-term and extensive usage of psychedelic substances like LSD. Wilson has warned about the dangers of such drugs for decades.

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys Remarked About His Schizoaffective Disorder:

“Well, I’ve had auditory hallucinations in my head for the past 40 years, and I can’t get them out.” The voices say something unpleasant to me every few minutes, which discourages me a little, but I have to be tough enough to respond to them, “Hey, would you please stop pursuing me?” F*** it! Don’t bother talking to me—just leave me alone!” I have to say things like this all day. It’s like a battle.”

Musicianship

The Pendletones, the forerunners of the Beach Boys, first performed together in 1961 as the Pendletones. Wilson, his brothers Carl and Dennis Wilson, cousin Mike Love, and college friend Al Jardine were among the five men in the group.

Wilson and Love wrote “Surfin,” which became their first local success. Candix Records released the song, and the band’s name was shortly changed to the Beach Boys.

Wilson’s father, acting as band manager, terminated the contract and helped the band land a deal with Capitol Records. The tracks “409” and “Surfin Safari” were both national hits for the label.

Wilson and the Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records and had their first top-ten hit with “Surfin’ U.S.A.” in 1963.

Wilson was highly involved in the recording process, negotiating to be in charge of production for their first album, and decided to employ double tracking for all of the band’s vocals, resulting in the Beach Boys’ signature deep sound.

Wilson continued to work as a producer on the albums Surfer Girl and Little Deuce Coupe, both of which were released in 1963. Wilson also began producing other acts, such as Jan and Dean, the Castells, and The Honeys.

He discovered that he was more suited to the role of producer, both for other artists and for the Beach Boys, and resigned from the band’s traveling schedule in 1964 after suffering a panic attack on a flight.

During live performances, Glen Campbell and then Bruce Johnston stepped in for Wilson.

Wilson began experimenting with cannabis and other psychedelic drugs in 1965, which had a significant impact on his music.

Wilson continued to push himself musically by exploring new styles and sounds, probably most notably with the Beach Boys’ album Pet Sounds, which has received widespread critical praise and is generally regarded as a Brian Wilson solo album.

Soon after, another of Wilson’s Beach Boys songs, Good Vibrations, was released and went on to become the band’s third number one hit in the United States.
