Blake Lively Looks Stunning In A Versace Gown Inspired By Architecture At The Met Gala!

Celebrity Transformation

lake As she walked the Met Gala red carpet on Monday night, Lively paid tribute to New York City architecture in a shimmering gown that dramatically transformed.

Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds co-hosted the event, and while Reynolds wore a more classic Ralph Lauren tuxedo for the theme “Gilded Glamour and White Tie,” Lively stunned in a custom Versace gown inspired by Art Deco design and the details of some of New York’s most famous landmarks.

The evening’s dress code was inspired by the Gilded Age, a 30-year period at the end of the nineteenth century in the United States that saw skyrocketing wealth for industrialist families and over-the-top fashion for New York City’s upper crust.

When Lively first arrived, her glittering, beaded Versace gown was wrapped in an oversized coppery satin bow. But as she ascended the stairs to the entrance of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, her bow was released, revealing the rest of the sweeping ensemble: a long skirt in an aged copper tone, paying homage to the patina of the Statue of Liberty.

“I’ve patinated,” Lively told LaLa Anthony during Vogue’s live stream. “This dress is a tribute to New York City and so many of its classic, iconic buildings.” She showed off some of the dress’s subtle references, saying, “This is detailing from the Empire State Building, some of the drapings from the Statue of Liberty…(and) the constellation from Grand Central Station.”

Tiaras were the accessory of the night, and Lively was one of many who wore one. Hers was an elegant band with seven spikes, another nod to Lady Liberty. The actor explained that the seven continents represent “inclusivity, welcome, and freedom.” She also asked jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz to include 25 stones for the 25 windows of the iconic statues.

“‘Who’s going to be counting the stones?'” she recalled Schwartz asking. “‘Me, I’m a Virgo,” she laughed.

“Being one of the hosts this year was especially nerve-racking,” she told Anthony. “I thought a cool take on the theme would be to look at the city that I adore and the architecture, rather than just the fashion.”

“Instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture and classic buildings,” Lively told People on the red carpet.

Of course, the actress isn’t the first to have a theatrical ‘transformation’ moment on the Met Gala red carpet; who can forget Lady Gaga‘s memorable striptease in 2019, or Zendaya‘s fairy-tale light-up Cinderella gown?

Lively has been attending the Met Gala since 2008 and has never disappointed, appearing on many best-dressed lists each year. This year was no different.
