ASAP Rocky began rapping at the age of nine. He was destitute financially in his early years, and once his father and sibling died, he grew more committed to being a rapper. He began his professional career in 2007. He began his career as a member of the Harlem-based music group ASAP Mob.
During that time, he worked on several projects. ASAP Rocky’s debut online single, Peso, was published in 2011. It was originally released online, where it became a huge hit and was later broadcast on the radio. His debut mixtape was published the same year.

A$AP Rocky was arrested in Stockholm, Sweden, in July 2019 for aggravated assault during a street battle with Mustafa Jafari. Jafari was allegedly kicked and abused during the incident. Rocky shared two videos of the incident on Instagram, including one in which he and his crew tell two young men, including Jafari, to stop following them.
In the second video, Jafari’s headphones break during a fight, and he uses them to beat A$bodyguard AP. The bodyguard is shown on a surveillance camera punching Jafari. A$AP and his bodyguard were arrested because there was a chance he would flee or tamper with evidence.
They were imprisoned at Kronoberg Remand Prison until the trial began on July 30, delaying Rocky’s tour. Following his imprisonment, the US Embassy paid him a visit, his family approached Al Sharpton for help in getting him released, and many other activists, politicians, and fellow musicians petitioned for his release, all to no avail.
A$AP Rocky denied the charge of assault. On August 2, his trial ended, and he was released from custody to await the verdict on August 14. He flew back to the US on his own plane from Sweden, knowing that if the final sentence was longer than the time he had already served, he would be transported back to Sweden to serve the remainder of his term.
He was found guilty of assault and sentenced to a one-month suspended sentence which he had already served as well as $1,270 in damages to the victim.
