In October 2021, Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of ‘Rust’ while rehearsing for a scene. Halyna was a cinematographer who was shooting the film. Actor Alec Baldwin was rehearsing for a scene when the gun fired off, killing Ms. Hutchins and also injuring Mr. Souza.
The accident took place as Baldwin was rehearing with, what he believed to be, a fake prop gun. It did not go well at all and resulted in the tragic death of Halyna. Everyone was shocked after the incident.
Halyna was survived by her husband, Matt Hutchins, and their nine-year-old son, Andros. Her husband sued Alec and other producers of the Western Film Rust. The production of the film had halted ever since.
Case Settlement
The case has been settled recently, and it is being said that the movie production will begin this month. The settlement terms have conferred Mr. Hutchins the position of executive producer. While the film still has its original director, Joel Souza.
The suit was filed against Mr. Baldwin and the other defendants for reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures that endangered the crew, including failing to follow basic industry-standard safety checks and gun safety rules.
“The filming of ‘Rust,’ which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board, in January 2023,” Mr. Hutchins said in a statement about the settlement that was released through his lawyer. He added, “I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
In its request for funding, the official said that up to four people — including Mr. Baldwin — could be charged if prosecutors decided criminal charges were warranted. It remains unclear why live bullets were on the film set and how at least one got into the gun that Mr. Baldwin was handling.
