Baki Hanma recently debuted on Netflix, and fans are already asking if there will be a third Baki Hanma season, making this Baki anime’s total number of seasons five. All you need to know about season 5 of Baki, a weird martial arts world developed by Keisuke Itagaki.
A prospective Baki season 5 has yet to be announced (or Baki Hanma). Netflix released the fourth season on September 30, 2021, so it’s too early to tell if there will be a five-season. However, there is enough manga material to adapt, so the likelihood of a fifth season is very real.
As a result, speculation about Baki’s upcoming fifth season is rife, so we decided to dig deep and bring you the most up-to-date facts we could dig up on the show.
Will there be a Baki season 5?
All twelve episodes of Baki Hanma, which were released on Netflix on September 30, 2021, can be streamed now. On Netflix, Baki Hanma is the third season of the Baki anime, following two seasons released in 2018 and an ONA season. Baki the Grappler had two episodes in 2001 that aired on Toonami.
Because there are so many Baki adaptations, the manga’s framework is a little more complicated than the anime’s, but that’s mostly because there are so many of them and no obvious structure to them.
So far, the franchise has two individual OVA episodes (1994 and 2016), the original anime series (two seasons, 48 episodes in total), a new ONA anime series (which aired from 2018 to 2020, with 39 episodes in total), and its sequel ONA series (which premiered on September 30, 2021) with 12 episodes in all.

You can check out our page to see the actual in-universe chronology of the franchise, but that’s not really the problem here. All the animated content in the canon anime universe and the new ONA series are essentially continuations of the original anime series, even though the narratives are only loosely connected. This is what you need to know about this situation.
On a basic level, this doesn’t really matter because the ONA series doesn’t actually contradict the original anime in any manner, making it easier to watch. In order to make sense of the show’s sometimes befuddling plot structure, I’ve provided a brief synopsis. As a result, what does this mean for the possibility of a fifth season?
There is a lot of room for improvement. For the fifth season of the show, there is plenty of material to adapt from the manga that we have seen so far. Though speculation about a fifth season is possible, we still don’t know for sure if there will be one.
Baki Season 5 release date
A release date for Baki is impossible to predict without knowing whether or not a fifth season would be forthcoming. This is especially true given the series’ inconsistent release history, with periods of more than a decade between releases.
Let us see how the releases happened:
# | Title | Release Date |
---|---|---|
1 | “Baki The Grappler: The Ultimate Fighter” (OVA) | August 21, 1994 |
2 | Baki the Grappler, season 1: “Kid Saga/Underground Arena Saga” | January 8, 2001 – June 25, 2001 |
3 | Baki the Grappler, season 2: “Maximum Tournament Saga” | July 23, 2001 – December 24, 2001 |
4 | “Baki: Most Evil Death Row Convicts Special Anime” (OVA) | December 6, 2016 |
5 | Baki, season 1: “Most Evil Death Row Convicts Saga” | June 25, 2018 – December 16, 2018 |
6 | Baki, season 2: “Great Chinese Challenge Saga/Godlike Clash of the Kids Saga” | June 4, 2020 |
7 | Baki Hanma, season 1 | September 30, 2021 |
There was a seven-year gap between the original OVA and season one of the anime, which premiered in 2001 as you can see. A gap of 15 years separated the first OVA episode from its sequel. Baki’s first season aired two years ago, and the second season was released a year and a half later. After another year and a half, Baki Hanma was finally launched.
On September 30, 2021, Netflix launched its latest Baki adaptation, and based on the frequency with which Netflix releases Baki adaptations, we believe that a new season won’t be on before 2023, at the earliest, but we cannot rule out the chance that it won’t emerge until 2024 or later. We’ll have to see what happens.

Baki Season 5 trailer
Because we don’t know if Baki will have a fifth season or not, there is no trailer for the fifth season. Netflix may release a trailer for a new season in 2022 or 2023, but we can’t give a particular date because we don’t know the exact release date.
Baki Season 5 plot
Baki’s story revolves around fighting, fighting, and fighting some more! Manga arcs were used to break up the fighting, thus the franchise has a much larger plot to follow the development of its characters. After the Baki Hanma ONA aired in 2021, two manga arcs – Combat Shadow Fighting and Great Prison Battle – were adapted for television. So, what’s in store for a possible fifth season of ‘The Walking Dead’?
Adaptations of the Pickle Wars Saga, the Warrior’s Struggle Saga, and the Strongest Father-Child Quarrel Saga can still be made for the Baki Hanma manga. In terms of importance, the Pickle Wars Saga is the most likely choice for adaptation because Pickle is an essential character in the franchise.

Following Baki’s battle against Biscuit Oliva, the world’s scientists uncover Pickle — a caveman from the prehistoric age. He is transported to Mitsunari Tokugawa where he fights a lot of great fighters,” Pickle says. Pickle is a key Baki character, and seeing him appear on TV would be a welcome sight. Plus, Baki has to fight the Ogre.
It’s possible that this chapter could be skipped entirely and the Baki Hanma storyline nabbed at the end. There are two new manga series that follows Baki Hanma, one of which is Baki-Dou, which is a continuation of Baki, the Grappler’s saga, while the other, Baki Hanma, is a continuation of Baki Hanma.
The plot summary tells the following: “After the conclusion of the epic battle between father and son, Baki Hanma continues to fight in the underground arena and train nonstop, but he always needs to repress his yawn induced by the crushing boredom. No amount of stimuli or danger can bring enthusiasm to him at this moment.
Musashi Miyamoto, one of the founders of Japanese martial arts, is now being cloned as part of a huge cloning operation including the Prime Minister of Japan. Baki is about to engage in yet another epic showdown.”
Baki Hanma’s story has enough material for at least three more seasons, and possibly more, according to the plot. Pickle, the new character we’ve been waiting to meet, and Baki’s last showdown with the Ogre are both required plot points for a possible fifth season, in our opinion.
There are more great stories to adapt later, but we think it’s best to tie this one up first before diving into Baki-universe. Dou’s To not adapt some of Baki Hanma’s best moments into films would be a shame.
